Bridge of Dee
After the excitement of the last few days when we had visitors from the south, today was a return to normality. A rather quiet day which included a visit to the supermarket. A couple of the local supermarkets are situated next to the Bridge of Dee. This was originally built in 1527, though I don't believe much of what we see today dates from then.
The bridge was substantially rebuilt between 1718 and 1723, and in 1841 was widened from 14 to 26 feet. Despite the widening it is fairly narrow for modern traffic, and is not used by large vehicles which have to take a short detour towards the city, to a larger stronger bridge. Heavy through traffic might be diverted from the city altogether if the long proposed bypass is ever constructed.
