Winter fennel

Another cold, clear, sharp morning. The thermometer said it had been -8 outside during the night and it didn't feel like much more than that inside.

The moon was strong, reluctant to depart and the cold, heavy mist lay on the low ground below. The sun was not yet visible but its golden light had begun to bring in the day. The camera was readied with a gentle whir as it searched for focus. It collapsed with the effort; a battery completed depleted.

Nothing left to do but just enjoy the unfolding scene. And utter expressions of disappointment.

Later, with batteries recharged, the fennel did not disappoint.
