Snug
This morning as I walked up the steps to the canal I could see the surface water had frozen overnight - the first time this year. This swan, accompanied by another, sat perfectly still in the icy water. Their heads were buried into the feathers on their back in an attempt to retain as much heat as possible. As I stood and looked at them, this swan lifted its head, but quickly returned it into its snug position on its back. What a beautiful and serene scene with which to start the morning.
