La Palma, Canary Islands

On the straight and narrow

The road across the north is very twisty turny due to its mountainous nature. For example, it takes 25 minutes to drive to our nearest town of Barlovento
- and it is only 13 kilometres away.

Now we have roadworks so it takes a little longer - no complaints though because it will ease our journey in the future (and we are not exactly being asked to do it ourselves).

They are using natural stone for the supporting walls where the road will be widened. In other places, rock faces are being 'removed' whch will mean less bends. Needless to say, it is a mammoth task.
