Record breaking black pudding

Living in the islands you get to be bit of a connoisseur of black pudding. To my mind there is no beating the Stornoway black pudding - my favourite is the Charlie Barley one but the Harris black pudding comes a very close second.

The Spanish it seems are also very fond of black pud - it's called "morcilla" in Spanish. The ones in this area have rice mixed into them. They are good but not as good as the Stornoway ones. We were very excited to hear that during our rest day in Burgos there was going to be an attempt to break the world record for the biggest ever black pudding. This we had to see!

The event was thronged with people and there was a long length of covered table where the giant black pud was fed towards the cooking pot. The finished product was a record breaking 170 meters long! It looked and smelled fab - as it finished cooking in the boiling water it was removed and then popped onto a barbeque for the volunteers to share.

The rest of the day seemed quite tame by comparison - visiting the stunning cathedral then exploring the lovely city and sampling the tapas and wine...
