Thanksgiving!

Had a fabulous Thanksgiving in Amman last night! Lots of great friends from Qasid all came to celebrate and brought so much amazing food. About 15 people came over to my apartment and everyone brought something for a great potluck Turkey Day!

I had Arabic class in the morning as usual and then followed by work all afternoon. Work yesterday was really busy so by the time I finally got home at 5, I was exhausted. Luckily my roommate Kendra had already started cooking the turkey a few hours before and things were under way. We continued to cook the stuffing, brown sugar carrots and Karen made mac & cheese. People started to slowly arrive between 6-7 and were hanging out until about 1130pm. It was a lot of fun!

Even though we're in the Middle East, we had a very big American butterball. One of our friends wives works at the American Embassy and managed to score one for us! The turkey turned out great, which were were all a bit worried about to begin with but especially after the oven rack kept collapsing on us...we really weren't sure if it was gonna work out. It was so good though. With everyone's contributions we had a lovely traditional Thanksgiving. Turkey, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, carrots, salad, homemade biscuits, mac& cheese, green bean casserole, cheese & cracker platter, pumpkin pies, apple pizza and various other desserts.

The only thing missing of course was my grandfather's famous parsnips and me spending the night avoiding them (despite my love for my grandfather...umm..no!) and making fun of my sister as she caves and puts a little bit on her plate. All and all a very lovely Thanksgiving, especially as my first Thanksgiving in the Middle East.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!
