Tour of BBC centre

This is the microphone used by the very first presenter at the BBC whilst wearing full dinner suit and top hat! It was also used in the film The Kings Speech.
Today I visit the new BBC studios in Portland Place which seem so much smaller in reality than the view on our TV screens every night. However, the News Room which is always a hive if activity, was huge and packed with up to date media equipment.
I went with a number of friends and it was great to see 2 of them playing the parts of newsreaders using the auto cue and take part in a small radio play - it will never be broadcast!
After the tour we were able to see the lights in Oxford Street and Regent Street and the beautiful window displays in Selfridges. And if some if us then decided to undertake some retail therapy.......well, it would have been silly not to!
