John Jeffrey's corner

I've often wondered who John Jeffrey is, when I'm out for a walk I pass this fine plaque to this man, beside the plaque in the wall is the sign John Jeffrey's corner!
So when I came home today I googled him!

He was a Bo'ness hotelier who had on loan a harpoon made in Kinneil which was found inside a whale in 1893 by a Dundee whale boat "the Terra Nova" The harpoon belonged to one of the harpooners on one of the local whale boats "Jean". The harpoon was given to the Dundee Museum, while Mr Jeffrey had the harpoon for a month, he had a copy made of it.

One other interesting fact about him.....in 1930s Mr Jeffrey & Mathew Steele (architect) had an idea to dam the Forth between Queensferry & Limekilns to give the unemployed work!!! Mmmm!

I think he has a kind face!

A housework day apart from my walk, it's a cold cutting wind out there!
