Núcleo Engordador
Installed during the last decade of the 19th century (1898) and provisioned in 1904 this German-build boiler (Steinmueller / Gummersbach) was used to generate power for two steam-driven water-pumps in order to supply fresh water to the municipality of São Paulo.
Decommissioned in 1949 after an explosion, now it makes part of the " Parque da Cantareira", a state-owned park created in 1963 in order to protect the mountain ridge, water springs (part of the water-supply for São Paulo) and abundant and diverse flora and fauna. In the park several hiking trails can be followed.
