Olde Inn ( No 4 )
The Pelican in her Piety.
This inn derives it's name from the coat of arms of the Carne family and Sir Edward Carne who was allowed to buy Ewenny Proiry in 1545.
The coat of arms features a pelican plucking at her breast allowing the drops of blood to fall into the mouths of her young chicks at her feet, symbolizing Christ feeding his flock with his blood.
The first inn named the pelican on the present site, was built by the Carne family and was prominant before 1741. The name was changed to the Pelican - in- her Piety on November 15th, 2000, apparently " to depict it's true history "
We had a meal there a while ago and we weren't very impressed. The reviews aren't very good either.
