Crouch...bind...set

The call sequence for srum engagement. Here we're at the beginning of the "crouch" stage. Only when the referee has gained compliance with this stage will he (or her) give the bind command.

There's a bit to go before compliance - both sets of front row forwards should be at the same height to start with, the team on the right are having trouble in this respect. A beefy lad at tight head is having trouble getting to grips with things.

The team on the left were in ascendancy throughout the game and this shows with the way they are ready to engage before their opposition.

So I was watching another referee today. He was OK but needs to watch the scrum engagement sequence and also the offside.

Earlier I'd been at the allotment helping lay slabs for the next lot of sheds that are going up.
