Pirate!

It's been sunny, warm and muggy today with the odd sudden shower just to keep the tourists on their toes. Suddenly, like a cold hand touching you gently on the shoulder a HUGE bank of haar came rolling in. Attempted to take some pics of it but it was just too big and I couldn't catch the drama.

Blippage was rescued by a couple of Arctic Skuas attacking a tern to steal it's dinner (this is the juvenile). A bit more elegant than the Bonxies (Great Skuas) but like them they are the pirates of the bird world. Opportunists, rogues and thugs. They force other birds to regurgitate their food, steal eggs and chicks and take any chance they get to look after themselves. Get inbetween them and they're eggs and they'll have a go at you too.

But I've always had a soft spot for pirates. Which is a good job as this pic was taken just outside our front door.

Off to Westray Saturday, back Sunday. So I hope the fog rolls back and I get some pics of the most North West Orkney Island. Have a good weekend everyone.

Seems to have been a naturewatch day today around here, Arrow seems to have a nack for this wildlife photography (well I think so, but I am his Mum)
