What's in a Name?
All along the roadsides, particularly in the drier back country, blue-mauve flowers are starting to appear. The public mistakenly call these plants “Blue Borage” but in fact they are not borage at all. The flower is Echium Vulgare, commonly known as “Vipers Bugloss”. Bumble bees love the flowers. The flowers are also beloved by bees. The honey made from these flowers is marketed as “Blue Borage Honey”. Beekeepers have collections of hives all throughout the High Country as this honey tastes wonderful and sells very well.
The flowers make for some very lovely landscape photography. Today’s blip is captured along the Upper Taylor River Tracks and is a view looking across the river to Turnbull’s Vineyard.
