Elephant. "Elephant" I hear you ask; what has an elephant got to do with Christmas? The truth is nothing, but when our eldest daughter (now 23) was in Reception at the school Nativity Play she played the part of an elephant. This is an example of the many extra-biblical characters and animals that are added to the actual events that surrounded the coming of the Lord Jesus into the world as a man. Such additions include a donkey (- which was almost yesterdays blip - D is for ...) There is no mention of a donkey in the Biblical account of the birth of Jesus, despite the references in many carols. Rant over ...
