City Break

Here I am in York! The train ride from London to Edinburgh wasn't happening with today's storm closing the railway north of Newcastle. Even if I'd got to Edinburgh there was the trip back to Dunbar to consider, also uncertain. With Twitter telling us that the train we were on was terminating at Newcastle, along with every other train, I decided that Newcastle wasn't the place to be, arranged a hotel and bailed at York.

So, here's York. The city wall is surprisingly intact and the view to the Minster is pretty breathtaking. As you can see there's repair work underway and I took a view of the stonemasons, working outdoors with simple hammer and chisel. You can see that on Flickr.

After a good sleep I'll be up early for the direct service to Dunbar so it'll all work out fine.
