Old Technology
The passengers are all aboard the train and the carriage doors securely closed. The station master, or the guard, has carefully checked along the length of his train, and now stands at the end of the last carriage, looking back towards the engine. He checks again, blows his piercing whistle very loudly and waves his green flag high aloft. In the cab, the engine driver looks back, watching for this signal. He then raises his arm to wave to the station master, thus acknowledging his signal and letting him know that the engine is ready to pull out. In this picture, the mighty engine is primed and ready to grunt into action. The driver waves to the station master to let him know all is in order. And off they set. Communication via old technology. No mobiles to run out of battery power, no software to fail, no computers to break down, just good old-fashioned person to person communication, or as they say nowadays, ‘old technology’.
