The Scales of Christmas
I dust these old scales off once a year when it comes time to write the Christmas cards and work out which stamps to buy for them. I know I could let the post office folk do it but this is much more satisfying, especially if you've been queuing for yonks before you get to the counter. So that's it started at least, we'll get the most far-flung sent off tomorrow then move on to the rest and hopefully they'll all arrive before it's time to take them down!
Here's a golfer's tip; if you're ever thinking about starting a round when it's still dark, don't. Just tried it this morning with less than satisfactory results. Seems it's harder to know where you've hit the ball when it vanishes into the murk just a few yards ahead of you. Never mind, I've got plenty more in a cupboard somewhere.
