Scrub clearing
We had a brilliant work party today in glorious weather. 15 people gathered at the nature reserve to clear areas of scrub, coppice a group of hazels and rake up after I mowed a lot of the paths. This was the beast I was using for the mowing, a Honda powered BCS with a reciprocating cutter bar - a modern version of the old Allen Scythe. It's a wonderful machine, but heaving it around always uses muscles that haven't been in general use for a while and I end up aching all over and soaking in a bath. Amazingly, at one point in the day a Brimstone butterfly flew past.
