A heart-breaker.
An afternoon walk along the other side of the River Colne from yesterday's Essex Wildlife Trust reserve eventually yielded this view. To be honest I could have chosen five or six that were as beautiful as this but the reflection on the saltmarsh in the foreground and the patterns in the scum just shaded it.
Quite a lot of storm-surge damage visible along the front brought it home just how bad it could have been had the Environment Agency not built the flood defences around this area. Perversely the current crop of thieves in government have decided to cut funding to the EA over the next two years. Again. Fucking short-sighted, short-termist cretins.
Anyway. Tonight's amazing colour display began about an hour before this was taken and finally, gloriously finished about thirty minutes after this shot.
It was one of most beautiful things I've seen in ten years; hence the title, it was heart-breakingly stunning.
After this it was wild Coho Salmon (sustainable - natch!) done in a spicy sauce with hot noodle broth for tea. Splendid end to a perfect weekend.
