Early explorers to Australia didn't know what to make of these creatures.

Sir Joseph Banks, the famous botanist aboard the Endeavor on Captain Cook's first voyage around Terra Australis described the animals like, "a greyhound that hops around on two feet. Comparable to no creature they had ever seen before in Europe."
