Oh ... DRAT!!!!

Today I was in "The SHED".
AAAaaargh!
There are, literally, dozens; if not hundreds, of old books from "home".
I opened a case and found Fire Service study material, a stamp collection (Of sorts), My entire school history in the form of the Term End Report book.
It starts 1 Apr 1955 with me at
4'-9.25": 5st-12lb: Chest 27"-29" absent 14 half days
and ends 20 Jy '62 having reached
5'-8.25": 10st-13lb: Chest 33"-37"absent 10half days,
not much change there, even if I did double in weight.

The expletive(?) refers to the fact that ALL of these were empty, I wonder why they're still here.

That was when we used proper, real, money.
Stand by to be lectured.
2d = Two pence, known as Tuppence and worth 0.8P.
1/- = One shilling, the good old "bob" worth 5P in today's funnimuni.
Imagine trying to get 7 prints for about 8-9P today.
Or 6 post card size for 20P.
Or ten fags for Dad out of an unvandalised machine on the outside wall of the shop: and change out of 10P.

Hysterical, Historical note.
Did you know the Victorians made a stab at decimalisation with their "Two bob bit" some of which informed their owner that they were "Two shillings - One tenth of a pound"
It is my firm contention that, if they'd stuck at it, altered the value of the (then) penny we would have had a genuine decimal system comprising pounds, florins & pence.
10d =1 Fl
10 Fl=£1
And NOT the Centimal system we currently have
100P = £1. You cannot with a straight face and a clear conscience say that ANY monetary system with 100 small units = 1 Large unit is REALLY decimal.
"The decimal numeral system (also called base ten, or occasionally denary) has ten as its base."

As mate of mine once said. "Aye, nobody locked their doors coz we all had the same, nowt worth nicking that you didn't already have."
