no conversion

blipping from home now - the end of the african trip was not the greatest. on wednesday, after dinner, i noticed my stomach not feeling well before bed. without going into any detail, let's just say it was a sleepless night. thursday was heritage day in south africa, meaning i had a free day to wander myself, but couldn't manage the strength to do so, as i still felt ill until later that night. this happened to me in chile years ago, so i guess that's not a bad track record. still didn't like the fact it ruined my holiday though.

did have a good meeting with sister site in jo'burg though on friday. looks as though we'll be back in march to host a seminar, so that will be nice. maybe that'll afford me a side trip to malawi again to get rid of this kwacha.

there was no functioning forex in lilongwe when i left, and i forgot to use the remaining cash at the hotel upon checkout. turns out no one else in the world seems to want to change this stuff. so i'm home now, with about K3000 in my wallet (roughly US$20), and nowhere to spend it.

first time flying direct from jo'burg to the usa. nice 16 hour flight, been a few years since i've topped the 14-hour mark in one flight. still not too tired this afternoon, but expecting the crash any minute now.

coincidentally, dad sent me this link that was forwarded to him today. should be home for another week or so, which is nice, as i've got a lot of follow-up to do.
