The face in the tree

We are in Arnott Hill, Nottingham, near the park gates.
This intriguing face is carved out of a tree stump. Very striking, it has no name that I could discern, and so I am unsure what it is intended to represent.
I do find it a little "unsettling".
Interested in other views and suggestions. Might it be a Green Man?
