Drugs!

The other idea I had about Zen that I quickly discarded was that he was going to be off his ass on drugs most of the time - I think you can see that he was basically a rip off of Zonker Harris from Doonesbury at this point, and I had designs that Out House would be a sort of political strip - but I am not political in that way and gave up on that idea for two years of dick jokes.
