Picking up the camper
After another extravagant breakfast, we headed back to the airport to pick up the transfer to the camper an depot. Now, there is a lesson to learn here... When the guy picks you up and puts your luggage in the trailer at the back, make sure he shuts the trailer before heading off... We got to the camper van depot to discover we were missing Richard's holdall... He and the driver jumped back in the minibus and I stayed at the depot with that luggage that we did have... Thankfully, they returned about an hour later with Richard's (slightly battered) bag. Thankfully, everything was ok... Not really the start you need to your holiday...
Once inside, we were told that our camper had a cracked windscreen and would not be driveable for another two hours (do you sense a Mel hissy fit might have been looming)...? Still, by the time we had done the necessary paperwork (with a bloke who was quite clearly dragging his heels) we didn't have long to wait. We were soon on the road and after a quick food shop, were on our way up to the Bay of Islands. We arrived late afternoon and unpacked the camper. We made some dinner, assembled our bed and fell soundly asleep.
