The Coromandel Penisula
Today we decided to take the scenic route to our next stop. We took State Highway 25 around the Coromandel Penisula. This was lots of winding, hilly roads but the views were spectacular. We found our first geocache at one of the viewpoints we stopped at, so that was an added bonus...!
We decided to go to Cathedral Cove. This is accessible by foot or water taxi only. As you can see from the picture, it was pretty stunning. We parked at Haihei Beach (which was also pretty gorgeous) then walked to Cathedral Cove (about an hour away). It was a steep climb and descent and I was pretty worn out by the time we got there. Went for a dip, took some pics and caught the water taxi back to Haihei. We the stopped off at Hot Water Beach. Here, you grab a spade, dig a hole and it fills up with hot water from beneath the sand. Unfortunately we got there pretty much at high tide so we just watched the random bubblings of the hot water springs appear through the sand. They were hot! So hot, I was glad the sea was close by to cool my burning feet... We then headed a little further round the coast to Papamou where we stopped for the night. Phew, busy day!!!
