Geothermal Delights

Our second day in Rotorua and we headed to Waio Tapu thermal wonderland. This was really interesting and had lots of volcanic craters, pools etc. It was an amazing spectacle but it was quite whiffy...

Our campsite for the night was at the Waikiti Thermal Pools. This is a series of pools that use hot water from the springs. It was lovely. We spent the afternoon and evening lounging about in the pools. Campers were also able to access the pools before they open to the public in the morning so we got up the next day and bathed some more! I did not want to leave!!!

Still. It was very odd to have clouds of steam wafting about everywhere. At the bottom of the campsite/car park was a boiling hot stream and I kept thinking the place was on fire. As you drive along the roads, there is steam blowing across the road too. Amazing but very odd.
