Plain of Jars

These huge stone jars appear in clusters all over this province. No one really knows what they were for but think they were used in prehistoric burial practices. Whatever they were used for they are ace to look around.

They have cleared about 7 sites of UXO so are safe for tourists. We hired a motorbike and visited 3 of them. First time I've ever driven a motorbike and first time Ewan has ever even been on one so it was an interesting journey! Great fun but most of the 70 kilometres journey was off road on very bumpy terrain so was hard work.

I never thought in a million years we'd be hiring motorbikes on this trip or I would have done some lessons before we left the UK. But it seems that in many of the places we've been it's the only way to get to the sites unless you pay a lot of money for a tour. And the tours are awful and disorganised!
