Hoovering old varnish

Woohoo! Got the drum sander today and started hoovering up the old varnish. Love doing this job. Instant satisfaction.

Floor is in much worse shape than I first thought, although it's debatable whether it's as bad as the one a year ago. I think it's a bit worse, my father thinks it's not quite as bad. We could have spent a lot longer on this floor but it really wouldn't feel much better than it did after the 4 hours we spent with it and the drum sander.

Worked really well though - to keep the rental hours down, we had this sander running continuously with 2 people for 4 hours straight. No stopping. Perfect.

Still no idea if it's pine or oak. Looks great though!
