"Our Christmas Lunch"...
...No fuss or bother today - just a bbq lunch down by the river, just ourselves and our son who made a surprise visit to see us for Christmas, bless him .and so good it is to see him too..
...After the usual family and friends phone calls - we packed up a sort of half prepared salad and meats, and dessert, and off we went, down to the river, amongst the birds - and - not a soul in sight - that's right - no one, just a few cars passing by on the nearby road and a couple of speed boats racing down along the river there..
...And so we sat on a bench seat on the manicured lawns there, near the old shearing shed under a lovely old pepper tree in the cool - and even though it was almost 30deg.C then, it was still cool under the pepper tree..and when the boys cooked the meats on the nearby bbq - we had our lunch and then came back home again - just around the corner - no fuss or bother and I wonder how you spent your day today..I hope it has been as you wish it to be - and not too much fuss or bother for you..
...Sometimes we think -the less fuss or bother there is - the better the Christmas day can be, especially these days..the children don't mind, it's all so exciting for them, as we too remember, and I especially - remember the trouble my parents went to for us..
... And I also remember some of my old relatives telling me that their Christmases were just like ours, today - sometimes spent at the beach, a picnic, and they would take a full watermelon and rock melon and a shovel, and the men would dig holes in the wet sand just above the water line under the jetty where they'd all sit - and they'd bury the whole melons and when sandwiches were all done - the men would dig up the melons, wash them in the sea and cut them up on a board and the children would go running off with the biggest piece of melon each - and that ofcourse was dessert..
...No fuss and bother, and all had a great time on Christmas day - providing no one kicked sand into the sandwich basket...No fuss or bother was there..and they remembered their Christmases with great passion..
