Nativity scene...
This little handmade and handpainted nativity set came all the way from Margarita, a little island off the coast of Venezuala, where we had a lovely summer holiday a few years ago.
When we were there, there was a real effort being made to encourage tourism and it really is a beautiful location for a holiday. Although known as "the Pearl of the Caribbean" it feels more South American than Caribbean. The language spoken is Spanish and the population are mainly Catholic. I coudn't resist buying this lovely little nativity set as a souvenir.
Sadly, since then, there have been several periods of unrest and various violent crimes and acts of piracy which have impacted adversely on the plans to develop tourism. I wonder what happened to the various young people we met who were so full of plans for the future?
