Back to the birds

Today was calm for most of the day and so I took the opportunity to put up my nets to catch and ring some birds. It was a good day with a variety of tits, four Goldfinch and this Jay - now DD04551. Always noisy, Jays are surprisingly common but quite timid and are normally only heard or seen flying away.
When I say timid that does not apply to them when captured as they are punchy birds prepared to use their (large strong) beak and (sharp)claws to scratch and bite anything that gets near them. Hence the photo of only the head.
Its noisy aspect is reflected in the Latin name - Garrulus Glandarius. You can hear a variety of their calls via this link.
