It had been around for a few days and I hadn't bothered. In a funny way this bird is the Hebridean speciality and I'd wanted to see my first one there hence my ambivalence.
Five days of not going to see it however and I cracked - Brixham was only about 15 miles away. There in the harbour, with about 50 birders admiring it, was this winter plumage White-billed Diver - the only one known about in the country at present and only the third ever for Devon.
Not a great picture but at least you can see why it is sometimes called Banana-bill.
