Victorian Fountain

This is part of an ornate fountain, which stood in the centre of our once gracious Market Drayton to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1897. I'm not sure when it was demolished, certainly way before 1972 when I came to the town but whenever it was it ended up lying in a council yard for many, many years until a local resident asked if he could salvage it for his own garden; he has now kindly donated it for the new garden at the Festival Drayton Centre so it can be appreciated once again by the local community and what wonderful stories the fountain could tell us, if it could speak . Thank goodness for the historians, researchers, cameras and good old wikki who can provide us with such interestering points of history.

I went back to work today but T met me for lunch at the Festival Centre after which I spent a little while in the garden and took a few shots of the fountain and was pleased also to see the Helebores just about to lift their lovely heads again and also some bulbs pushing through, optimistically??!!
