Firework Chaos
I have said it before a number of times, but it bears repeating - Mexico is a land of chaos. Fireworks on New Year's Eve is a prime example. We knew, after a number of years here, that there is always a wonderful midnight show on the beach in front of The Viceroy Hotel. Our merry bunch headed down the beach, dodging the private fireworks that went off every few meters, to the place where everything was set up. We were intent on getting a good spot, but need not have worried. We arrived ten minutes ahead of midnight to find the hotel band counting down - 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, Happy New Year! Fireworks erupted around us, no more than six meters away. The guys lighting them off were using ordinary lighters right next to those going off (you can just see them in the bottom of this shot). Amazing experience, if a bit nerve wracking. Welcome 2014!
