Sound Illustration Challenge Day 2
SOUND LINK.
As part of my journey along the Lithgow Heritage Trail we visited the old Lithgow State Mine Museum today. The mine produced coal between 1910 and 1964 when it was flooded. Evidently the seam was approaching the end of its viability at that time and so rather than endure the huge cost of removing the water through vast networks of underground tunnels, they sealed the shafts off and turned the site into a museum.
Following the British tradition, the colliery had a band which pretty much wound up when the mine operation did. Some pictures, some of the old instruments and a few uniforms were on display. This was an old cornet which had belonged to the group.
I thought I'd provide a link to the South Australian Police Brass Band for some atmosphere HERE to participate in Cathaber's Sound Illustration Challenge.
