This gent is one of several paintings on the rood screen in the local church. It was reckoned to have been painted in the late 14th century and presumably represents some sort of Saracen figure - a baddy in those days.
There is a sort of superior sneer on the lips - perhaps it was a face that was painted to frighten the children back in those days before we had the press to stir everyone up about immigration as nowadays!
