Omikuji

Omikuji are fortunes on slips of paper at Shinto & Buddhist temples. They are received by making a small donation and randomly choosing one from a box. The fortune predicts your chances of health, fortune & love for the year ahead. When the fortune is bad it is customary to tie it to a tree or wire in the temple grounds. The idea is that the bad luck will wait by the tree rather than attach itself to the bearer. You can see more of these in yesterday's blip.

I am a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it.
