The loneliness of Command

What a day. Gale force winds offshore, fixed wings diverting all over the place, helicopters getting nowhere, and at the end of the day, who's left doing the final flight - the good old Deputy Chief Pilot, my mate Lionel.

Work is a bit like being a hamster on a wheel, going round and round and really getting nowhere.... It's the first flying day of the New Year, and already we are in backlog!

The days go on and on and on... Hard work, tiring, noisy... But working with good chaps like Lionel makes up for it.

I'd like to type more about my night landings at the Brent, but I am sitting in my immersion suit, in my company house, and I can hardly keep my eyes open. And it all starts again tomorrow at 8am. Joy.
