The End Of An Era Circa 1960
This sculpture by George W. Lundeen, stands in front of the Colorado Springs Pioneer Museum. It depicts the sport on the edge of change as more sophisticated skis were developed. In 1859/60, near Breckinridge, ten gold miners from the camp, made skis out of shaped wood and travelled down the valley. They were some of the first to use this mode of transport. Colorado celebrates the growth and development of its skiing industry as Alpine, cross country and ski jumps were introduced.
