Anatomy Of A Hummingbird Feeder
It was bath time for one of the feeders so I decided to take some measurements.
The bottle is 15 cm long and, oddly enough, or possibly due to remarkable engineering and design, the diameter of the feeder is also 15 cm wide.
What was truly remarkable to me was that the ports, those circles through which the hummers drink the nectar, were only 3 mm wide.
What you see in the photo is the base on the right. The plate, which houses the ports, fits into the base. Everything gets tightened into place when the bottle is firmly twisted into the base. The brush is to clean the ports.
Now, considering that the nectar is in the bottle, in order to put the whole contraption together, you have to place the plate onto the base and put them on top of the upturned bottle. You then QUICKLY flip the entire thing over, allowing the nectar to flow into the base so that the birds can access it.
