Back to work...

A relatively quiet and uninteresting day.

However, I did work out that even with a bit of effort, my work life will NEVER allow me to shed a few (Ha ha!) pounds. So, I'm in the market for a bike. Been such a long time since I had one that I really have very little idea where to start.

(Last one was a carbon frame road bike and I am loath to switch to anything heavy. Being short of stature I would find it difficult to get anything heavy onto the car rack. I really don't want to have to explain crush injuries sustained from a falling bike to a junior casualty doc!).

A young man took one look at us and suggested that we were after hybrids - which somehow, I have managed to conceptualise as an insult - albeit well intentioned. Besides, I haven't come across many of these that seem light enough for my rather feeble muscles. So, personally I think a mountain bike would be a better way to go as most of the use will be off road, maybe not mountain, but certainly off road.

Problem is, I'm still versed in the days when old school bikes carried names like Falcon, Raleigh etc. Not quite stuck in the three gear era - although I do remember the days when this was a relatively new thing - but definitely struggling with 16 plus. (I think that by this stage I'd be opting to get off and walk!).

So, an appeal to anyone who knows about such things; what are the things to look out for and does anyone know of any good places in Scotland to get decent advice? Willing to travel for the right bike!

Anyway, as this is a late blip due to last night's blipcrash, I better get on and face the day. Work awaits!
