Rusty Pipes
I believe these pipes are from a Central Otago gold mining area. Large amounts of water was used to wash away the rocks and gravels cliffs and to bring the mix down so they could be treated probably with a riffle box. For smaller amounts a gold pan could be the order of the day. These pipes would have held a lot of water which may have been bought by water races following the contour lines often running for kilometres.
All the steps - creating water races, sluicing, mining and extracting gold took huge amount of man power. This was well over hundred years ago.
Interesting how well the pipes have lasted and how little rust they have.
