Cable Laying

On the way back from Kirkwall this morning we stopped at the beach for a bit of a leg stretch and were surprised to see these two off shore. They are working on the subsea fibre optic cable which comes up from Scotland, through Orkney and then goes on to the Faroes.

Mike had a light day on the post and finished early so we headed back to the beach to collect some sand. By that time both vessels were lit up like Christmas trees, but I preferred this shot. Ollie couldn't believe his luck, two beach visits on one day!

The sand is for another project . . . ! And yes, we did get the owner's permission!
