Marsh Sandpiper

No apologies for two birds in a row. This looks similar to yesterday's Greenshank and indeed that is the confusion species for Marsh Sandpiper. You can see this brd has a much slenderer needle like beak - you can't see its legs are relatively longer and it is considerably smaller.
Marsh Sandpiper are rare in Britain - this bird, that has been around since mid-December, is the first ever to be seen in the UK in winter. It should currently be either in Africa or India - a much warmer option that the Western Isles on a pretty bleak and cold January afternoon.
