The morning vanished, so in order to achieve something for the dat, visited Tower Hamlets Archives Centre, fascinating not just for the ridiculous amounts of information it holds, but for the unrenovated building its in - so much work there ahead of the librarians and archivists. There's a nice little exhibition on there at present, Stepney in Peace and War, paintings by Rose L. Henriques; she and her husband are East End legends. Spitalfields Life has blogged about it so if you look up the exhibition title you should find it, and it includes images of the paintings, which are so interesting..

I walked all the way down Mile End Rd to Whitechapel, to look at the Vallence St terrace, where there is a stoush with local council who want to demolish them. I found time to put in an objection! Seems I can't help myself.
