That's not a ship's mast ...

It's a tree. But it looked like a mast from a distance. These are just a few of the Bird of Paradise flowers in Madeira's botanical gardens. Wonderful panoramic views of the island on the way up via two successive cable car rides!

Was torn for choice which of the fantastic array of flowers and trees to blip, but thought this view was neat, showing the Atlantic in the background (next stop: America!).

(PS I notice my blip on this date one year ago was also from the same Madeiran botanical gardens - how lucky am I?!)
