Tick tax
We inherited this kitchen grandfather clock a few years back. It went down one branch of the family before coming into ours.
It was made by Robert Maxwell in Wigton. He featured in Wigton registry in 1770.
Our son, who traces the family history, found in the 1778-79 tax records for clocks and watches a reference to a pocket watch and a long case clock. So we are reasonably confident of the period.
It's not a valuable piece but the link back through the generations and the family name inscribed on the face make it special.
