Cultural Heritage?
Today we went to Smethwick Heritage Centre which is a tiny little private museum in a Gatehouse to the Park at the end of Smethwick High Street. This is the magazine they produce to generate some income.
We were the only ones there as it's officially closed until March for cleaning and reorganisation so we had a fascinating private tour of the three rooms they have.
We had rediscovered in our loft a collection box for laundry to be sent to Smethwick Laundry which was demolished a few years ago so we decided to take it to the museum. It was the size of a moderate suitcase, made of brown very thick and strong cardboard type stuff and had a canvas strap around it. I remember Mom used to fill it with seasonal clothes to be stored in the loft but she says that before that My granny would have sent my Grandad's white coats, which he wore to deliver the bread on his round from the family bakery with the horse and cart, to the laundry for expert attention. The Bakery shop was just to the left of where the green tram is in the picture.
Apart from that, we did try to get a sunrise this morning but failed to find any sun. Fortunately daylight still happened. Super handyman husband was not very impressed at having to get up earlier than he wanted to to go to the top of a local hill. We'll try again sometime soon.
