Light in the Darkness

This is the main door of St John's Church Halesowen. The church is the one that we can see from our house and it looks especially beautiful on those nights when the tower is floodlit and the bells are lovely as they ring their way across the woods and fields to us.

This is a Norman arch which has been recently restored. I know the main church building is local sandstone but I'm not sure what the arch is made of - I really like the strength of the Norman arches and the design is beautiful. The church was mentioned in a Domesday Survey of 1086 but the oldest part of this building dates from 1120.

We went for a wander round the town today - something we haven't done for a long time. Halesowen is one of those formerly beautiful little towns with some very old bits but a real history of development in the Industrial Revolution. Unfortunately the planner got their hands on it in the 1960s and it hasn't been the same since. It's functional rather than beautiful now.

All in all, an interesting day "footling around" as super handyman husband would say!
